Falling back

Thank you Lord for today, thank you for waking us up to see this beautiful new day that you have made, thank you for your grace, thank you for your mercy, thank you for who you are, thank you for never changing, thank you for never turning your back on us even when we slack on our Christian walk; when we go through periods where we’re not praying as much, not being as consistent in studying the word, slowly falling back into old ways, we thank you Lord. In Jesus name we pray Amen.

Today I want to talk about ‘falling back’ falling back on our journey with Christ. Being a Christian is not easy and sometimes we do slack on the journey. We find ourselves in a time where we don’t pray as much or we’re not reading the Bible consistently and I felt I had reached that point.

I spoke to a friend who is on her own personal journey with God, told her I had these moments where I felt as though I would fall back every now and then and proceeded to ask how she was able to keep on top of her religious walk and if she also had her moments where she felt like this. She reassured me that it is normal for these circumstances to occur and quoted; ‘Proverbs 24:16; For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again, but the wicked shall fall by calamity.’ A righteous man will fall but allow themselves to get back up, whereas someone who is not righteous will stay fallen and will not even recognise what they are doing.

It’s not about falling, it is about what you choose to do after.

This allowed me to feel comforted in realising that I have recognised where I have fallen back and now I have something to work from and to not feel discouraged about it.

The following day I attended the online Bible studies that she was leading and the topic was ‘What it’s like to be a strong Christian.’ I learnt that being strong is a process, it requires discipline, certain things to be done repeatedly, with consistency, such as exercise; in order to see the results it requires perseverance. However, it’s not of our own strength, it all comes from God, we can’t do it on our own. In ‘Psalm 73:26 it states; My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.’ God is the source of our strength. We will always fail trying to do things on our own, we will get tired we will get weary but God will not fail us. We serve a God that never fails!

In the process of feeling like I was diverting, I realised that in order to get back it was never going to be off my own back, it required communication with God. It also reminded me why I started this journey to draw closer to God in the first place, because his love is so unconditional, it’s immeasurable and everlasting and no matter how many times I may slip up and fall back from God, it only takes one step to get back and start again.

I pray that you will find comfort in this blog today and I encourage you all to keep the faith and stay strong in the Lord.

God Bless x
